Did you know that much of the beef labeled “Product of the USA” actually comes from Canada, Mexico, Brazil or Argentina? The current laws allow the meat packer to label it “Product of the USA” even if it is the beef is NOT born and raised in the United States. That’s just wrong.

To achieve the quality of beef we desire, it starts years in advance. Our cows start calving in March. Typically, we have some very harsh winters in southeastern Montana. Preparing the mother cow to thrive through these conditions is very important. It starts with weaning her calf in October, giving her ample time to gain body condition back before winter arrives. We maintain her condition through quality feed of hay, haylage, and protein supplements over the winter months. It’s very important the cow gives birth to a healthy vigorous calf and then we continue by taking care of our beef.

Our cows and calves are then on grass in large pastures from May to October. We manage the grass by using pasture rotations and practicing the philosophy of take half the grass, leave half the grass. This is a great way to manage invasive weeds and prairie dogs, also.
