Our beef is sourced from the Dan Gaskill Ranch and Home Creek Cattle Company, at 800-900 pounds. We feed our beef a minimum of 150 days on corn, as our finished target live weight is 1550-1600 pounds. All our beef is under the age of 30 months.
You Can Never Rush a Great Steak.
Montana Premium Beef starts with world-class Black Angus genetics to create that perfect marbling that melts in your mouth with rich flavor. Our Angus cattle are raised from birth to harvest in the serene pastures near the Powder River County, Montana. They are grain finished a minimum of 150 days and dry-aged 14 days for an artisan masterpiece from our ranch to your table. Quality is very important to us.
In 2020, Tyler Gardner of Home Creek Cattle Company approached Dan and Bill Gaskill about providing artisan beef that would provide exceptional quality for those searching for ranch-to-table beef. They provide what few ranchers do, a true artisan experience from calf to harvest that customers can count on.
Many ranchers will purchase calves without any knowledge of genetics or they purchase steers to grain feed finish for only 90 days. Here at Montana Premium Beef, we start with world-class Black Angus genetics that assure flavorful marbling. We keep our best calves, letting them range on the serene and bountiful Montana grass and then grain finish right here for a full 150 days. It’s also important to us to keep our herd as stress-free as possible.
Personally taking our beef through the entire feed cycle assures quality and we know exactly what we are providing our customers.
That’s very important to us - and it should be important to you, too.
Tyler Gardner, Owner
Tyler manages operations and was raised on his family ranch in southeastern Montana. Growing up, he always loved being around and working with livestock. Growing up, he was very active in 4-H which led him to discover production agricultural, woodworking and being active in his community.
Tyler attended furniture design school in the Smoky Mountains of North Carolina. He has owned and operated Ty’s Custom Furniture since January of 1999. When Tyler and Kelli married in 2007, they went into partnership with his parents, Dave and Pat Gardner and formed Home Creek Cattle Company, LLC. They are a cow-calf operation raising Black Angus cattle.
“Our beef market is very volatile anymore, and costs continue to rise. I love making great products whether it is furniture, winter wheat for hay, front end set of steer calves, or a tasty ribeye steak. I strive for perfection in every task. My grandma always said, ‘Any job worth doing is worth doing correctly.'“
Bill Gaskill, Owner
Bill grew up on the family ranch on Pumpkin Creek in Powder River County. He loves the genetics side of Montana Premium Beef. Bill was active in FFA and competed in livestock judging, ag economics, as well as meat identification competitions. He went to college in Sheridan, WY to study Ag Economics and Animal Science before moving home to help his father, Dan Gaskill, on the ranch.
In 2016 he bought his first registered cows.
“Breeding cattle, watching the new calves grow and develop, caring for them as well as our land has always been my passion. It’s very important to me since agriculture has allowed my family to grow and expand operations, and continues to provide us with a great lifestyle.”
Dan Gaskill, Owner
When Dan was only 18 years old, he took over the family ranch from his father who was ready to retire. Quality always has been important to Dan and he dreamed of offering the best beef in the industry. In 2007, Dan and his son, Bill, and started their own cattle operation together, making it now the 4th generation of ranching Powder River County for 127 years. But, it was when he was approached by Tyler to produce, feed and sell artisan beef that Dan’s dream was realized.
Beef traits that are very important to Dan are length, depth, disposition and the fine line between carcass traits and maternal traits. In 2014, Dan went Schaff Angus Valley and purchased Oliver. Oliver has made his mark on our genetic improvement to our cow herd. He has added all the traits that are important to Montana Premium Beef. We continue to buy bulls from Schaff Angus Ranch today as top genetics are a big contributor to how cattle feed and grade.
“My grandfather rode horseback from Valentine, Nebraska in 1893 to the Pumpkin Creek area, and that was the start of the Gaskill Ranch. Since then, his seven sons have all ranched in this area. My dad bought his first Black Angus cows around 1970 and in 1986 my brother and I bought the ranch from him and we continued to raise Black Angus cattle. The Gaskill Ranch has been artificially inseminating cattle since the early 1980’s striving to get the best genetics in the country. We have purchased bulls from the world-wide sought after, Schaff Angus Valley in North Dakota.”
